Automatically redirect to link overview after add / edit a link

What is the problem you are trying to solve?

After adding or editing a link, you remain in the view of the link you just added/edited.
The browser does not automatically redirect you to the link overview (with all links).
In addition, a success message appears that is barely visible.

This often leads to confusion among customers.

The current process is as follows:

  1. Open the page with all links

  2. Add a new link or edit an existing link

  3. Fill in the required fields/make adjustments and click on the Save button

    1. You remain in the overview of the newly created/adjusted link

    2. A success message appears very briefly, but disappears again very quickly

  4. Clicking on the Cancel button or the arrow in the menu bar takes you to the overview of all links

The fact that the success message appears for only a fraction of a second after saving a newly created or customized link and then disappears again immediately makes workflows even more difficult. This causes customers to lose time at work because they have to work with a system that is not particularly user-friendly.

When the customer manually returns to the overview with all links, they cannot find the link immediately because the links are not sorted by creation date or modification date.

This leads to additional confusion and extra work because the customer first has to search for their newly created or modified link.

What is your project about? (e. g. Intranet, Partner Portal, Enterprise Website, etc)

What is your proposed solution? (optional)

To avoid confusion for customers, the following procedure is desired:

  1. Create/edit a new link.

  2. Click on the Save button.

  3. After clicking on the Save button, the user is automatically redirected to the overview of all links.

Is there a way to customize this behavior so that users are automatically redirected to the link overview?

It would be very grateful if you could provide a solution soon so that we can make it easier for customers to use the product and increase their satisfaction with it again.

Hi @sar,

Sorry about that, but it’s not immediately clear to me.. Which link management do you refer?

Thank you,
Zsigmond

Hi @Zsigmond_Rab,

The link overview is a website/area that we created ourselves.

This webpage can be found in the Site Administration, the website is listed under “Content”:
Product menu → Content → Links

If that helps, “Links” is an object whose panel link is set to “Content.”

Thank you.

Hi @sar,

So is it some custom module based on Objects? Is my understanding correct? If so, how can we help to improve that from within the DXP? Do you use a built-in DXP module that isn’t working in the expected way?

Either my understanding is correct or not, could you please give more detail of what your suggestion is exactly about?

Thank you,
Zsigmond

Hi @Zsigmond_Rab,

This is not a custom module from DXP, but rather an object definition.

Let me try to explain it in more detail:

The “Links” page is an overview of all URLs created by customers, which they can attach to articles. The overview of all links is displayed in table form, and you can sort by the respective column headers, e.g., title or creation date.

As soon as you add or edit a link, a dialog box opens for creating/editing a link. This means you are no longer in the overview with all links. In this form, you can enter the data, e.g., title of the link and the URL, and assign a category.

Once the fields are filled in, click on the Save or Cancel button.

When you click on the Save button, a success message appears briefly in the lower left corner, but it is hardly visible because it disappears immediately.

However, you remain in the same view of the link you just created/edited.

This confuses customers because they feel that the saving process did not work.

When they click back to the overview with all links, they will only see the link they just created/customized if they sort all links using the filter function so that the links they just created/customized are displayed at the top.

However, if customers click the Cancel button in the dialog box, they are automatically redirected to the overview with all links.

This behavior is also desired when clicking the Save button.

Thank you.

Hi @sar,

Thank you very much for the clarification. The usage of the Object Framework was the gap for me.

Give us some time to process the request.

Zsigmond
