Title: Prevent discarding page drafts in Production from breaking open Publications
What is the problem you are trying to solve?
When a page is edited in an open Publication, discarding its draft in Production deletes and recreates the associated FragmentEntryLink entities with new IDs. This breaks the relationship between the Production page and the corresponding entities in the Publication. When the Publication is subsequently published, unresolved conflicts occur, potentially forcing editors to discard valid fragment changes and lose their work.
Avoiding all Production edits to pages involved in open Publications is not always feasible, as urgent content changes may be required while larger Publications are being prepared in parallel.
What is your project about? (e. g. Intranet, Partner Portal, Enterprise Website, etc.)
A production banking website built on Liferay DXP, where multiple teams prepare Publications while urgent content updates must sometimes be made directly in Production.
What is your proposed solution? (optional)
Ideally, change the draft discard mechanism to preserve existing FragmentEntryLink IDs when restoring a page to its published state, provided the corresponding fragments remain logically unchanged.
At a minimum, disable the Discard Draft action in Production for pages modified in an open Publication, and display an explanatory message informing the user why the action is unavailable and how to proceed safely.
This would prevent accidental conflicts and loss of work without unnecessarily restricting the existing functionality for other pages.
