How to Submit an Idea

  1. Sign up for a Liferay Discuss Account: Create your own account login on discuss.liferay.com, so you can post and interact in this category.

  2. Search Before You Post: Before submitting a new idea, please search the forum thoroughly for existing similar requests. If you find an idea that matches yours, vote on it instead of creating a duplicate. This helps us consolidate feedback and accurately gauge community interest.

  3. Submit Your Idea on Discuss: To submit an idea, create a new topic in the Product Ideas category. Be sure to provide a clear and concise description of your idea, including the problem it solves and the benefits you envision.

What Happens After You Submit an Idea?

Once you’ve created a post, here’s what you can expect:

  1. Initial Triage: A member of our Product team will review new submissions to identify and merge duplicates, categorize ideas, and ensure clarity. Ideas that are clear and unique will be evaluated and potentially put under consideration if they are aligned with our product vision and strategy.

  2. Voting & Review: Community members are encouraged to vote for ideas they support. Your votes are an important signal to our product team, helping us understand collective interest.
All submitted ideas will be reviewed by the Product team. Based on an initial evaluation, the Triage team will redirect your Product Idea to a relevant Product Manager for deeper review.

  3. Resolution: Following triage review, only if a product improvement idea addresses a valid business need and aligns with our product roadmap, will it be considered for further development and tracked internally in Jira. If an idea does not meet these criteria, it will receive a direct response on the forum with one of the applicable statuses.

Possible Resolutions

  • product-priority : This idea addresses a critical need and has been prioritized for an upcoming release. We’re working to get this to you as soon as possible.

  • future-development : Great news! This idea is aligned with our product direction and has been added to our roadmap for a future release.

  • already-exists : We believe this functionality is already available in the product. We’ll provide details on how to access it.

  • not-aligned : After careful review, we’ve decided not to move forward with this idea at this time because it doesn’t align with our current product strategy.

How You Can Help

  • Vote on existing ideas: If an idea interests you, please vote for it! This is the best way to show your support.

  • Provide clear details: When submitting an idea, the more clearly you describe the problem and potential solution, the easier it is for our team to understand and evaluate.

  • Stay engaged: Keep an eye on your idea for status updates and potential questions from our team.

I really like the way SO handle this. Along side normal global search, they do a search based on your proposes post, displaying related posts on the side.
