I’ll give an example. I’ll upload a new image, then use it on a page. Later, I want to update the image so I’ll find it in Documents and Media, open edit and upload a new image. Now that document has two versions. The latest can be referred to with the same friendly URL as before. That’s fine in Liferay, since there’s no image caching and the URL stays pretty.

Now let’s enter another system consuming SitePages via the headless API. The image URL in the page definition doesn’t change, and there’s no additional data included to indicate that this is a new version. The only way is to make a HEAD request and follow the Date-Modified changes. That is, if you need to cache images, and I sure do.

I have a faint memory that Liferay 6 included a timestamp in the document URL, and maybe there’s some property to alter the document URLs.
