Upgrading Liferay might not be easy. Thinking about how we can enable people, gain productivity, and evolve collaboratively, we build an opinionated Claude Code agent for upgrading Liferay portals and their customizations (portlets, themes, fragments, FreeMarker templates, Client Extensions) across major versionsIt breaks an upgrade into phases, each backed by a set of skills, and orchestrates Liferay’s own tooling rather than replacing it.We should have a glance of: - How to model an end-to-end upgrade as phases + composable skills an agent executes. - The capabilities involved: deprecated-API remediation from upstream mappings, semantic code migration, visual/functional regression audits, Playwright flows from a testmap, Jira-ready output. - How the agent evolves collaboratively — getting better as more people contribute skills.
