### **Bridging the Data Gap: Building Custom Analytics Dashboards with Liferay Data Platform Headless APIs**

Many organizations rely on analytics dashboards to guide decisions, but often face limitations when those dashboards are rigid and predefined. While Liferay Data Platform provides powerful insights, its out-of-the-box dashboards may not offer the level of flexibility required for different teams, roles, and use cases. In this deep dive, we explore how to bridge that gap by leveraging Liferay Data Platform Headless APIs together with Liferay DXP Client Extensions. Instead of relying on static dashboards, we propose an approach where a single analytics widget client extension is made available on DXP — flexible enough to serve any metric, but focused on one at a time.Users compose their own dashboards by dragging and dropping multiple instances of this widget onto any DXP page. Each instance is independently configured: users select the metric they want to display (from the full set of Page-level and Site-level metrics available in LDP), set the desired time frame, and the widget renders live data pulled directly from LDP Headless API endpoints. The result is a fully composable dashboard built from a single, reusable building block. To complete the loop, Liferay Objects will be used to persist each widget’s configuration, enabling dashboards that survive page reloads and remain editable over time — all within the Liferay ecosystem. As a final layer, each widget instance integrates with AI Hub to generate a plain-language insight summary beneath the chart — automatically surfacing the most relevant patterns in the data, so Digital Marketeers spend less time interpreting numbers and more time acting on them. This approach transforms analytics from a fixed, one-size-fits-all experience into a flexible, user-driven system — built with Liferay, for Liferay. What this deep dive will cover:- Real-world use cases where custom dashboards provide more value than static ones- Overview of LDP Headless APIs and available metric endpoints — Page-level vs. Site-level- Architectural approach: a single configurable Client Extension widget that adapts to any metric- How users compose dashboards by placing and configuring multiple independent widget instances on a DXP page- Allowing users to configure each instance — metric selection, scope (Page or Site), and time frame filters- Using Liferay Objects to persist per-widget configurations and enable reusable, editable dashboard compositions- Integrating AI Hub to generate automated insight summaries beneath each widget instance- Live demo: Creating the analytics Client Extension widgetAdding multiple instances to a DXP page via drag-and-dropConfiguring each instance with a different metric using LDP dataPersisting configuration with Liferay ObjectsRendering AI Hub-powered insight summaries alongside each visualization.
